You are warmly invited to attend a research workshop linked to the University of Leeds study ’Social Networks and Infant Mortality’.

Infant mortality rates for African Caribbean, Pakistani and teenage mothers are much higher than in the general population and the reasons for these inequalities are not entirely clear. The workshops will present research findings about barriers to effective support that women from these groups who experienced an infant death faced during maternity and after the birth of their child. Details of collaborative work that is currently being developed in Leeds and Bradford to respond to the women’s priorities will also be presented.

National guidance suggests that listening to women at highest risk of infant death and using this feedback to influence service development is an important aspect of work to reduce inequalities in birth outcomes. There will be an opportunity for workshop participants to discuss how they can respond to the findings and promote action within their own area of work.
